The entire office was unrecognisable. It was decked out with golden lanterns flickering in the dim lighting, and plush cushions scattered across cosy seating areas. The exotic scenery served as perfect backdrops for capturing those Insta-worthy moments.

Desert Ball Madness: A Fun-Filled Showdown of Skill & Team Spirit During the Staff Engagement

The Desert Ball competition had everyone on their feet—and pumped up with the competitive spirit. Teams threw themselves into the challenge with full force! They dodged, leapt, and strategised their way through the game, giving it everything they had. The energy was electric, and the crowd roared with encouragement as the teams battled for victory.

In the end, Reabetswe Shadi and Abednego Sibiya came out on top as champions.

With a vision to foster healthier habits, career growth, and personal transformation, the program launched in January to an outpouring of excitement and enthusiasm.

The January kick-off event was nothing short of inspiring. Employees were introduced to the initiative through goal-setting workshops, motivational talks, and personal development challenges aimed at laying the foundation for sustainable, long-term change. Staff Domain leaders underscored that this isn’t a fleeting trend—it’s about cultivating a workplace fitness culture that lasts. The energy was palpable, with participants eager to embrace the challenge and redefine their wellness journeys.

The ability to be coachable—to take feedback, ask for help, and stay committed—is what sets apart those who succeed.

Guidance, Not Shortcuts: The coaching team is here to paint the road yellow, guiding participants through their personalised plans. There’s no magic formula—just consistent effort, smart adjustments, and long-term commitment.

Struggling? Reach Out: If you’re feeling off track, remember—you’re not alone! It’s your right as a participant to message your coach directly on Teams for support, advice, and motivation.

Tracking = Success: Science is just data. Your health and physique goals are clearly outlined in your trackers. The more data you log, the higher your chance of success.

Check-Ins & First Awarding: Every four weeks, we conduct a detailed program check-in to analyse progress. This timeline aligns with scientific biological processes—most transformations take about four weeks to manifest! The first awarding will take place at the end of Q1, so stay consistent and keep pushing forward!

Encouraging Work-from-Home Employees to Join: Feedback from remote participants has been overwhelmingly positive. To encourage more remote workers to join, we’ll be reaching out directly and encouraging participants to share content from their check-ins between Feb 17 and Feb 21.

Love bloomed at Staff Domain as the company came together on February 14, 2025, for a Valentine’s Day celebration filled with acoustic tunes, prizes, and heartfelt talk. The pantry became a venue for love, with shades of red filling the room, setting the place for the day’s celebration.

The event began with an uplifting message from Ben Rajah, the CFO and Co-Founder of Staff Domain, who encouraged the team to enjoy the moment, celebrate together, and make the most of the activities prepared. It was a great way to start the event, bringing excitement and a sense of togetherness to everyone in attendance. Up next was Emerson Mendoza, the Global Head of Human Resources, who delivered his inspirational message to the employees.

Words that Touch the Heart

Following the sincere speech by the Global Head of HR, he went on to announce the winners of Heartfelt Moments, a love story and self-love writing competition. The competition had taken place several days before the event, giving participants ample time to write their essays and allowing judges sufficient time to select the winners.

The stories shared by staff were deeply moving, showcasing love in all its forms—from romantic tales to powerful journeys of self-love and self-discovery. Every entry reflected the writers’ strengths in narrating their journeys, regardless of how their experiences may have once broken them. Among the many entries, five minor awards and two grand winners were given to the most outstanding pieces in both writing and storytelling:

To make the event even more special, the company invited Joelle Yuvienco, the voice behind the popular Spotify podcast “Paano Kung…,” to lead a heartfelt talk on love alongside the host. Known for honest and deeply emotional conversations exploring love, relationships, and “what if” moments, she shared her insights on the common challenges people face in relationships. Together with the host, she led “Swipe Right for Advice: A Puso Talk with Joelle.”

The heart of the session was the interactive Q&A between Joelle and the staff. Employees actively participated, openly sharing their stories and asking questions about their personal experiences with love, relationships, and self-discovery. Joelle’s session did more than just provide answers—it reminded everyone that their voices mattered, their stories were valid, and their participation helped shape the company’s culture. It was truly one of the meaningful parts of the event, giving everyone a chance to reflect on their own experience, address lingering questions, and view love from a different perspective.

Acoustic Tunes

Setting the romantic vibe and atmosphere, the band “GSeven” serenaded the employees with acoustic tunes. The soft melodies of the band’s performance created a perfect backdrop as the staff enjoyed their meals. Songs continued to play even after the meal, with the band taking song requests from employees, ensuring everyone’s favourite tunes were played. The momentum carried on as a sing-along session began, with employees invited to grab the mic and sing along with Ken Fraser, the lead singer. The room was filled with laughter, applause, and employees singing altogether.

The Valentine’s event brought employees together through exciting games designed to spark connection and fun. Both onsite and remote employees participated in a lively Valentine-themed trivia challenge, answering questions about love, famous romance stories, and relationship facts. The game was more than just a test of knowledge—it was a chance to break the ice, share a few laughs, and strengthen team bonds, no matter where employees were working from.

The second game was Heart Hunt. Before the event began, the organisers placed heart-shaped papers in different parts of the pantry, and the goal was to collect six to win a prize. Meanwhile, the WFH team had a creative twist on the hunt—they had to find four heart-shaped items around their house and share them during the event to win.

The game added a playful vibe to the celebration, as it took place throughout the event. It was a fun and lively way to keep everyone engaged and connected, making the experience even more interactive and enjoyable.

Staff Domain South Africa kicked off 2025 with an unforgettable Caribbean Island-themed party, held on the 23rd of January 2025, at the Randburg office.

The event, designed to enhance staff engagement, aimed to foster stronger connections among employees, the company, and their teams. It was a heartfelt gesture from Staff Domain to show appreciation for the incredible dedication and hard work the employees pour into their roles every single day.

More than just a party, the event was a meaningful opportunity to recognise and honour the invaluable contribution of everyone, reminding their efforts are seen and valued.

With the colourful decorations, it felt like a vibrant island paradise had been brought all the way from the Caribbean to the office. The room was alive with colour from the very bright and lively hues to cheerful accents throughout the space. The atmosphere is nothing short of tropical and the employees were fully immersed in the festive island atmosphere, creating the perfect escape from the everyday office grind.

Lunchtime turned into a flavourful, hands-on experience with a “Build Your Own Burger” bar, where employees customised their perfect burgers from a variety of toppings. Fresh salads and island-inspired sides added a tropical twist to the meal.

To round things off, creamy ice cream lollies provided a refreshing and indulgent treat, perfectly complementing the island theme. The event wasn’t just a meal—it was a fun and memorable experience that brought employees together in a unique way.

This event was no exception, as staff come together to celebrate in style embracing the vibrant and lively spirit of a Caribbean theme. However, amidst the number of dazzling outfits, only two managed to rise above the rest, triumphing with looks that truly captured the attention and admiration of everyone. After much deliberation for the Best Dressed Competition, the following were crowned the winners for their fabulous attire.

Staff Domain’s 2024 Year-End Luncheon was a day to remember. The gathering was held at the Mabweni Venue in Usambara Lodge. Guests were welcomed into a serene atmosphere featuring a picturesque view of nature. The setting provided the perfect backdrop for an intimate, memorable event that brought the team together to celebrate the year’s achievements.

Feast of a Luncheon

The luncheon was a culinary delight. It began with a delicious Caribbean Phyllo Basket. The main spread included BBQ chicken, tender roast beef, and an array of delectable sides such as cauliflower and broccoli au gratin, sweet potato crumble, and creamy samp. The dessert station was no less impressive, offering warm malva pudding, garnished mousse, and timeless vanilla ice cream. The whole menu delighted everyone’s palate.

What’s a year-end party without a bit of flair? As the employees enjoyed their meals and shared drinks with colleagues, the company decided to up the excitement with some raffle prizes. The fun employee events at Staff Domain continue! Last September was a supercharged month as the year’s third quarter ended. To cap the month off, the company held its second run of SDx Talks last 20th September and a fantastic acoustic and comedy night on 27th September.

How to Make Your Career Thrive in the Age of AI

At the second SDx Talk, our guest speaker, Lory Casuncad, explored a crucial question: how can we thrive in the age of artificial intelligence (AI)? In her talk, The AI Advantage: How Will AI Enhance Your Career, she shared valuable tips on leveraging AI to stay ahead of the curve. Here are some key takeaways:

1. The workings of AI prompts

To get the best out of AI, you must give it the right instructions. AI, like a well-trained assistant, will only deliver results based on the quality of the prompts you provide. Mastering the creation of good prompts for AI will ensure that it produces what you were aiming for without complications.

2. NLP's role in humanising AI

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is crucial to AI understanding complex situations and responding more humanely. While AI can now comprehend more nuanced language, it’s still up to us to input the right data and feedback to keep it aligned with human needs and emotions. On 26 September 2024, Staff Domain South Africa hosted one of its most memorable staff engagements to celebrate the rich diversity that makes our team truly exceptional. The Heritage-Themed event was more than just fun—it was an incredible opportunity to connect on a deeper level, sharing our cultures, traditions, and stories. From the stunning attire to the heartfelt Show and Tell presentations, the day was filled with pride, unity, and a renewed sense of belonging.

Two key highlights of the event were the Best Dressed and Show and Tell competitions, which added a lively and competitive spirit to the celebration. Employees from the day and night shifts brought their A-game, showcased stunning attire, and delivered presentations that resonated with everyone present. The winners were:

Known for its delicious slow-cooked flavours, this dish was enjoyed by all. It perfectly complemented a day filled with meaningful connections and fun.

We also took the opportunity to recognise one of our star performers, Luciano Spanoyannis, who was named Employee of the Month. Luciano’s dedication and outstanding performance have been an asset to the team. Congratulations, Luciano!

Frights and Delights: Highlights from the 2024 Spooky Carnival Celebration

Staff Domain threw a bash for its employees and their families to an early Halloween and Family Day on 12 October 2024. Apart from the spooks, employees and their plus ones—even twos—enjoyed a day of fun at the Spooky Carnival: Family Day x Halloween Celebration, held at Star City in Manila.

Over 500 Staff Domain employees, their families, and Staff Domain Gives beneficiaries enjoyed a full day of shows, activities, games, and rides from afternoon until night. It was the perfect opportunity for them to bond with their loved ones and strengthen connections with close friends.

Costume parties

Halloween would not be complete without a costume parade, and Staff Domain ensured the younger attendees were at the centre of the spooky celebration. Children arrived dressed as fairies, superheroes, cartoon characters, ghosts, and ghouls, showing off their creative costumes. Parents also contributed to the fun by helping their children with their outfits.

To recognise their efforts, we awarded PhP 2,000 each to the cutest, scariest, and most creative costumes. This added a fun competitive element to the event and gave children a chance to shine.

Trick or treats

What is a Halloween celebration without trick-or-treat? The Halloween tradition was in full swing. Before the event kicked off, loot bags filled with surprises were handed out to each child. Later in the day, the children also received sweets from the company’s departments. Overall, this part of the celebration was a highlight for many children.

Rides and games

The entertainment was not limited to just trick-or-treating and costumes. Staff Domain planned plenty of games and activities to keep children and their parents entertained throughout the day. Classic parlour games had children competing for small prizes, with some games requiring parental participation.

Beyond the games, the amusement park rides were a big hit with attendees. Employees and their families eagerly lined up for favourites like the Bumper Car Smash, while some tested their courage in rides like the Surf Dance, Star Flyer, Seahorse Viking, and Star Frisbee. The rides were a blast for the thrill-seekers looking for an adrenaline rush and those just seeking fun with their families. The air was filled with laughter and plenty of screams of joy—maybe even fear.

As part of our commitment to giving back, Staff Domain extended the celebration to our partner. The company sponsored 40 students and their parents from our partner school, Riversprings School Inc. These families participated in the activities and games, rode the rides, and enjoyed the food, making the day even more special.

August was a month of significant milestones and vibrant events at Staff Domain. We marked our calendars for two key events: the inaugural SDx Talk on 23rd August 2024 and the Mid-Year Town Hall on 28th August 2024.

Launching the First-Ever SDx Talk

On 23rd August, we introduced the first in a series of SDx Talks—an initiative aimed at inspiring and engaging our workforce. The inaugural session featured Marlon Molmisa, a known Filipino leadership speaker and corporate trainer in the learning and talent development industry. His talk, “Beyond Boundaries: Building a Life-Fulfilling Career,” delved into the importance of cultivating a positive work culture, embracing core work values, and the crucial skill of active listening.

This SDx Talk was just the beginning. We have a robust series of future talks lined up, covering essential topics like employee wellness, productivity enhancement, and career growth. These sessions are designed to equip us all with the knowledge and inspiration to excel in our roles.

Informing the Workforce at the Mid-Year Town Hall

The Mid-Year Town Hall, held on 28th August, was a great opportunity for us to connect directly with our founders. They provided crucial updates on the company’s progress and future direction. They also took the time to address our questions on key topics such as wellness and health benefits, educational incentives, and enhancements to our human resource management platform.

One of the standout mentions during the Town Hall was the immediate feedback mechanism, Talk to the CEO. This allowed us to share our thoughts directly with the CEO, ensuring that our voices were heard and valued.

Celebrating Excellence at the LEFRO Awards

This August also marked the celebration of the LEFRO Awards in the Philippines, with South Africa set to follow. These awards are an employee-driven initiative that recognises individuals who embody our core values. The winners, selected through peer evaluations and a committee review, were honoured with cash prizes.

To cap off our celebrations, we were treated to a mini-concert by a popular Filipino rock band. They energised the crowd with a mix of cover songs and their hit singles, proving a perfect complement to a day of recognition and engagement.

Co-founder and Chief Financial Officer Ben Rajah also encouraged everyone to actively participate in these events and highlighted our company’s upcoming expansion plans. “We give people options to do things in South Africa and the Philippines, and now we’re adding India to the portfolio, which means we can cater to software developers, who are a bit more abundant there, and accountants.”
